Setup guide and general information to help you get the best from your new theme.

This document describes how to install and use this theme and provides answers to frequently asked questions about the theme. We encourage you to carefully read this document if you are experiencing any difficulties. If you have any questions that aren't covered here, please feel free to share with them in our support forums.

Important notice
for those who are using the previous versions (1.X.X) of the theme

The new version of the theme 2.X.X uses a different system for creating menus (Menus) than in previous versions 1.X.X However there has been maintained backward compatibility with previous versions, it is only necessary to switch to the old way of creating menus (Foods, Breakfast, Lunches, Dinners, Drinks and Wines).

This can be done as follows:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Administration
  2. Go to "Appearance  ›  Theme Options  ›  Reading (tab)  ›  Menus (section)"
  3. Find "Menu Type" and switch to "Foods, Breakfast, Lunches, Dinners, Drinks, Wines"
  4. Press Save Changes button

That's it, now you can use the old way to create menu cards.

Firstly, we are very pleased that you have purchased our theme and heartily thank you for it. We hope that you will enjoy and that you'll love to use.

Prior to Customization

This theme is a parent theme! If you plan to make some modifications to the code of the theme, will be better to make them via child theme. If you will make modification directly to the parent theme, you will lose those modifications when the theme is updated. When you make modifications inside of the child theme instead, you can update the parent theme without loosing any change you have made.

Getting StartedPermalink

Installation of ThemePermalink

To install this theme you must have a working version of WordPress already installed. For information in regard to installing the WordPress platform, please see the WordPress Codex - http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress.

Adding Theme Manually via FTP

Use your FTP Client to upload non-zipped folder called "linguini" (is located inside of main zip package downloaded from ThemeForest) and "linguini-child" (optional child theme) into the "/wp-content/themes/" folder on your server.

Adding Theme Using the WordPress Admin

To add a new theme to your WordPress installation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Log in to the WordPress Administration
  2. Go to "Appearance  ›  Themes  ›  Install Themes (tab)  ›  Upload"
  3. Browse and select theme zip folder called "linguini.zip" (is located inside of main zip package downloaded from ThemeForest)
  4. Press Install Now button

Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. Go to "Appearance  ›  Themes" and activate the theme.

Importing Demo ContentPermalink

To add the demo content onto your WordPress, follow these basic steps:

  1. Go to "Tools  ›  Import" and select "WordPress"
  2. Install the WordPress Importer plugin or skip this step if you have already installed this plugin
  3. Activate the WordPress Importer plugin by "Activate Plugin & Run Importer" link or skip this step if you have already activated this plugin
  4. Choose a xml file called "content/sample-content.xml" (is located inside of main zip package downloaded from ThemeForest)
  5. Press Upload file and import
  6. On the next screen you can Assign Authors if you want
  7. Press Submit and import will be processed

Permalink SettingsPermalink

The default structure of a permalink uses the post ID as a unique identifier in the url: http://example.com/?p=23. For the SEO of your website is always better to use much friendly pemalinks as: http://example.com/2013/03/04/sample-post. Follow these basic steps to set permalinks:

  1. Go to "Settings  ›  Permalinks"
  2. Select your option of permalink structure in "Common Settings"
  3. Also you can change the category base and tag base (optional)
  4. Press Save Changes

ContentPermalink

HomepagePermalink

By default, the homepage will use a standard blog layout. If you wish to use this layout, you don't need to follow any additional steps.

Setting up the HomepagePermalink

To set up the homepage with slideshow, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Home") and don't add content, leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored.
  3. Select "Template" called "Homepage" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved
  5. Go to "Settings  ›  Reading"
  6. Check the radio button "A static page (select below)"
  7. Select "Front page:" called as created page (for example: "Home")
  8. Press Save Changes

Homepage is now set correctly. Don't be alarmed that the page is blank for now, now you need to create slides into a slideshow by following the instructions below.

Creating SlidesPermalink

To create slide for the homepage slideshow, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new slide by going to "Slides  ›  Add New Slide"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the slide
  3. Look at "Slide Options" metabox where you can fill some another options of the slide:
    • "Show Title" - check if you want to display the slide title
    • "Caption" - add caption of the slide (optional) - usually appeared under the title, if is enabled
    • "The URL" - insert the URL you wish to link to - URL used only if title is enabled
    • "YouTube Embed Code" - if you want to attach a YouTube video to a slide, add the YouTube video code (code you can get from video URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12345abcdef) - Featured Image is required!
    • "Vimeo Embed Code" - if you want to attach a Vimeo video to a slide, add the Vimeo video code (code you can get from video URL: http://vimeo.com/123456789) - Featured Image is required!
  4. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  5. Press Publish

The first slide is now created. Repeat this process until you'll have created all the slides.

Creating CalloutsPermalink

Callouts are small call to action blocks displayed only on the homepage for highlight some significant event (as new album release or important event) of the website.

To create callout, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new callout by going to "Callouts  ›  Add New Callout"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the callout
  3. Look at "Slide Options" metabox where you can fill some another options of the slide:
    • "Show Title" - check if you want to display the slide title
    • "The URL" - insert the URL you wish to link to
    • "Description" - you can insert the desription of the callout (shortcodes allowed)
  4. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  5. Press Publish

The first callout is now created. Repeat this process until you'll have created all the callouts.
Can be displayed 4 last callouts.

BlogPermalink

Setting up the BlogPermalink

To set up the blog page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Blog") and don't add content, leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored.
  3. Press Publish and page will be saved
  4. Go to "Settings  ›  Reading"
  5. Check the radio button "A static page (select below)" (if isn't already checked)
  6. Select "Posts page:" called as created page (for example: "Blog")
  7. Press Save Changes

Blog page is now set correctly.

Post FormatsPermalink

This theme supports 4 of the standard WordPress post formats. Post formats are a way for you to choose a specific "format" for each post. Basically, once you give a post a format, it will change how that post is displayed on the front end of the site. For example, a "quote" post will output your entire post content as a blockquote. You can choose a post format from the "Format" box on the "Add New Post" page. The supported post formats are:

  • Audio
  • Gallery
  • Video
  • Quote

Creating PostsPermalink

To create post, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new post by going to "Posts  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the post
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the post
  4. Select post format in "Format" metabox if you want (optional)
  5. Select "Categories" of the post (optional)
  6. Fill in the "Tags" of the post (optional)
  7. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  8. Press Publish

The first post is now created.

MenusPermalink

Setting up the MenusPermalink

To set up the menus page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Menus")
  3. Select "Template" called "Menus" (image signpost of menus) or "Menus with All Items" (all menu items in all menus) in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

Menus page is now set correctly.

Creating MenusPermalink

To create menu, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new menu by going to "Menus  ›  Menus"
  2. Find the section "Add New Menu"
  3. Fill in the "Name" of the menu
  4. Fill in the "Slug" of the menu (doesn't required, will be generated automatically)
  5. Fill in the optional "Description" of the menu
  6. Upload image by "Add / Change Image" button
  7. Press Add New Menu

The first menu is now created. Now you must to add the menu items into menu, see below.

Creating Menu ItemsPermalink

To create menu item, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new menu item by going to "Menus  ›  Add New Menu Item"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the menu item
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the menu item
  4. Fill in the optional information (as Prices, Description - displayed in category, Ingredients) about menu item in "Menu Item Options" metabox in the central column
  5. Select created menu in "Menus" metabox in the left column
  6. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  7. Press Publish

The first menu item is now created.

EventsPermalink

Setting up the EventsPermalink

To set up the events page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Events")
  3. Select "Template" called "Events" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

Events page is now set correctly.

Creating EventsPermalink

To create event, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new event by going to "Events  ›  Add New Event"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the event (name of the festival, concert etc.)
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the event
  4. Select an event date (required) in "Event Options" metabox in the central column, possibly also the another event options
  5. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  6. Press Publish

The first event is now created.

VideosPermalink

Setting up the VideosPermalink

To set up the videos page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Videos")
  3. Select "Template" called "Videos" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

Videos page is now set correctly.

Creating VideosPermalink

To create video, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new video by going to "Videos  ›  Add New Video"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the video
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the video
  4. Fill in the YouTube or Vimeo code of video in "Video Options" metabox in the central column
  5. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  6. Press Publish

The first video is now created.

GalleriesPermalink

Setting up the GalleriesPermalink

To set up the galleries page, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new page by going to "Pages  ›  Add New"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the page (for example: "Galleries")
  3. Select "Template" called "Galleries" in "Page Attributes" metabox in the left column
  4. Press Publish and page will be saved

Galleries page is now set correctly.

Creating GalleriesPermalink

To create gallery, follow these basic steps:

  1. Create a new gallery by going to "Galleries  ›  Add New Gallery"
  2. Fill in the "Title" of the gallery
  3. Fill in the "Content" of the gallery
  4. Upload gallery images in "Gallery Images" metabox in the central column
  5. Set featured image in "Featured Image" metabox in the left column
  6. Press Publish

The first gallery is now created.

FeaturesPermalink

Theme CustomizerPermalink

One of the great new features in WordPress 3.4 is the Theme Customizer which allows you to modify options for a theme and instantly preview them on the site. With theme customizer you can change the following options:

  1. Go to "Appearance  ›  Customize" or "Appearance  ›  Themes  ›  Customize (link of Current Theme)" and Theme Customizer will appear
  2. Select desired section:
    • Site Title & Tagline - setting up the Title and Tagline
    • Colors - setting up the colors
    • Navigation - setting up the navigation
    • Static Front Page - setting up the front page and posts page
  3. Make your changes which then you can see in live preview on the right
  4. Press Save & Publish and settings will be saved

MenusPermalink

This theme uses WordPress 3.0 Custom Menus, to setting up the navigation, follow these basic steps:

  1. Go to "Appearance  ›  Menus"
  2. Fill in the "Menu Name" (for example "Navigation") and press Create Menu
  3. In left column tick all "Pages" (Categories, Albums, Galleries, Videos, Tags etc. - you can activate in "Screen Options" on the top right of the page) what you want to place into navigation and press Add to Menu
  4. Navigation items you can sort by dragging as you need
  5. Select the created navigation in "Theme Locations" metabox in the left column and press Save
  6. New navigation has been created and now you can see it on the website

Background ImagePermalink

This theme has option to set the fullscreen background image stretched by jQuery Backstretch. To setting up the background image, follow these basic steps:

  1. Go to "Appearance  ›  Theme Options  ›  General Settings (tab)  ›  Images  ›  Full Screen Background Image with Backstretch"
  2. Press Upload, upload the background image and then press Select
  3. Background image absolute path will be inserted into field
  4. Alternatively, you can also select the opacity of the image in "Background Image Opacity" (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% or 10%)
  5. Scroll to the end of the page and press Save Changes

Page TemplatesPermalink

Theme includes several predefined templates that can be used for any page. Simply select the desired template when you create page in the "Page Attributes" metabox in the right column.

  • Homepage [template-homepage.php] - Homepage template with slideshow, callouts and recent post and events. Use this template for the homepage.
  • Archives [template-archives.php] - Archives template displays all recent posts and pages.
  • Menus [template-menu.php] - Menus template displays the image (can be text) signpost of the menus. Possibility to select the type of display – grid or list. Left or right sidebar. Options in Appearance > Theme Options > Reading > Menus
  • Menu with All Items [template-menu-all.php] - Menu with all items template displays all menu items of all menus. Possibility to select the type of display – grid or list. Left or right sidebar. Options in Appearance > Theme Options > Reading > Menus
  • Events [template-event.php] - Events template displays upcoming events. Events are sorted automatically by date. Possibility to select the type of display – grid or list. Left or right sidebar. Options in Appearance > Theme Options > Reading > Events
  • Events – Past [template-event-past.php] - Events template displays past events. Events are sorted automatically by date. Possibility to select the type of display – grid or list. Left or right sidebar. Options in Appearance > Theme Options > Reading > Events
  • Galleries [template-gallery.php] - Galleries template displays photogalleries. Left or right sidebar. Options in Appearance > Theme Options > Reading > Galleries

Theme OptionsPermalink

Theme Options helps you to manage additional theme settings. Help information for the each option you can find directly in Theme Options.

Theme Options you can manage in "Appearance  ›  Theme Options"

TranslationPermalink

Default language file "default.po" is located in "languages" folder in main theme folder. For translation of the theme follow these basic steps:

  1. Download and install Poedit - http://www.poedit.net
  2. Open "default.po" file with Poedit
  3. Fill in the translations
  4. Save as file named by your language and country code ("language_COUNTRY.po" - "fr_FR.po", "cs_CZ.po", "de_DE.po", etc.) back to the "language" folder
  5. Open "wp-config.php" file which is located in root WordPress folder and find the line:
    define('WPLANG', '');
  6. Fill in the language_COUNTRY code (same as *.po file name):
    define('WPLANG', 'fr_FR');
  7. Save "wp-config.php" file and upload back to your server

Now will be the theme translated to your language.

Twitter API ConnectionPermalink

For using Twitter widgets you'll need set the connection to Twitter API:

  1. Open https://dev.twitter.com/apps in your browser
  2. Login to your Twitter account
  3. Click Create a new application button
  4. Fill in the Application details. For example:
    • Name: GP App
    • Description: Twitter Feed App
    • Website: http://grandpixels.com
    • Callback: leave empty
  5. Check Yes, I agree in Developer Rules of the Road
  6. Fill in the Captcha
  7. Click Create your Twitter application and your application will be created
  8. Click Create my access token on Details tab
  9. Go to OAuth tool tab where you can copy your keys and tokens
  10. Go to your WordPress installation and go to "Appearance  ›  Theme Options  ›  Socials (tab)  ›  Twitter API (section)" where fill in the keys and tokens from created Twitter application
  11. Click Save Changes

Now you can place the Twitter widgets (Linguini: Recent Tweet and Linguini: Tweets) into some widget area.
